What Home Cinema Cable Manufacturer Winner 2006

“The IXOS XHT458 HDMI cable is the latest in a long line of off-the-shelf and custom-made cabling for all your home cinema needs. 1080p video-ready, thei £80 cable is a desirable piece of kit in its own right. But the XHT458 is just the tip of the iceberg from a company that has made cable manufacture state-of-the-art. Take the IXOTICA range, a selection of cables for anything from amps to DVD players. Each cable is wrapped in a silver plated PC-OFC braid and a PVC outer jacket. The range of standard IXOS cables is just as impressive and guarantees the best in home cinema.”

IS IT THE BOOMBOX OF THE FUTURE?

Hands up who remembers boomboxes? Yup, us too. Well here’s IXOS’ take on the boombox of the future. Not surprisingly it’s based around an iPod, or any other MP3 player or portable for that matter. Connection to this ‘2.1’ speaker system simply comes via the standard jack-to-phono cable. The satellites pack in some 10 watts of power per channel, while the subwoofer outputs 12w. But here’s the crunch – it only costs £40. Hay caramba! The IXOS XMM628 is available now in white and silver. Here’s hoping the sound belies the price.”

“Bet you thought HDMI meant ‘definitely future proof’, didn’t you? Not all HDMi cables can handle full-definition 1080p, so it’s a good job IXOS came along. The connection specialist has just unveiled its latest contribution to pictorial excellence, the XHT458. This £80/1m HDMI lead can deliver full-bandwidth video to distances up to 25 feet, after which it’s still able to pipe 1080i/720p resolution to 80 feet and beyond. IXOS’ patented four-layer PC board in the connector itself and solid cast metal plugs keep things shipshape, with triple shielding eliminating interference. Watch out for a DVI variant soon and see www.ixos.co.uk for more.”

IXOS HDMI Cables

“HDMI is rapidly replacing the Scart lead as the number one AV interconnect, thanks to its ability to carry multichannel digital audio and high-def digital video. This £80 cable from IXOS can support 1080p as well as 1080i video feeds – hence the Tru-HD logo on the packaging.”

ST George’s iPod nano case and England earphones

Ok, so you’ve got your St george’s mobile phone, but now it’s making your iPod look a little unpatriotic with the World Cup rapidly approaching. Help is at hand from IXOS, which is joining the World Cup merchandising bandwagon/frenzy with a St George’s iPod nano skin and England earphones.

“As the World Cup approaches, manifest the triumph of hope over experience by pinning the nation’s colours to your iPod nano. Trouble is the nano is not a radio; so you can’t listen to the footie on it. Surely Apple could sort this out, as so many other MP3 manufacturers seem to have done?”

“This is definitely one of the neatest iPod accessories we’ve seen. Although its four small speakers don’t sound as good as some of the pricier competition, it’s cheap and portable enough to make it perfect for packing for holidays. It also lets you synchronise with a computer and recharges your iPod.”

IXOS XHT601 Scart Cable

One of the best and least expensive ways to upgrade your TV picture is to improve the connection between the TV and, say, a DVD player. This cable from IXOS is beautifully made and if it has a drawback it’s that is looks so good you’ll want to have it on display rather than tucked away out of sight. It’s handily available in lengths of 0.75m, 1.5m and 3m and is much better than the lead usually supplied with a DVD player.”
